Technical Difficulties

Hello Everyone,

Sorry about the lack of updates this week! I'm having an exceptionally hard time uploading my videos to youtube. I am trying hard to fix this problem, so bare with me! In the mean time, I thought I'd share an article from the State News (Michigan State University's student run newspaper) that talks about the all ASL speaking floor in Snyder-Phillips dormitory. Its a fabulous new cultural edition to student life here at MSU and my fellow ASL classmates, instructors and I helped petition to make it happen last year. Every Sunday and Wednesday nights there is a Signing Spartans meeting that takes place in the dorm's common room. This is a fantastic achievement that benefits deaf, hard of hearing and ASL speaking students. Even though no deaf students live on the floor yet, it's a great way to bring the Hearing and Deaf communities together. Just stop on by if you come with an open mind and with open…hands…

Living To Learn

Notice the glorious remarks made about UofM MUAHAHAHHA

Wish me luck in uploading these videos.

Keep practicing that alphabet! Start spelling people know, places you visit and things you see. Challenge yourself, teach the alphabet to a friend :)

See you later.

    Thanks Rob,
In spite of the fact that Youtube was giving me error messages, telling me there was an error uploading my videos, it uploaded about 5 of the same copy. Hahaha
Thanks for the offer though, keep coming back and keep practicing your signing :)

    kristen! it's lizzie!

i'm sitting in a library at school and i saw some people signing (a very common sight in rochester!), and then i decided to check out your blog cause chad just told me about it. totally awesome.

i have a couple questions about the alphabet:

in the picture chart that you posted of it, the "g" and "h" are facing different directions from the way you signed them in your video–in the picture the palm of the hand is facing out, and in the video, the back of the hand is facing out. is it supposed to be one way or the other? or does it not matter?

also, when we are "finger-swooping" to spell out "j" and "z", does it matter which way the letter is facing? or is it just sort of "who cares? i know what you mean" situation?

and there's no such thing as spaces between words, right?

maybe chad and i will practice with each other.
hooray, you are teaching people all over the country–maybe even the world!
your fingers look like they were made for signing.
