Hey Everyone,

Everyday this week I'll post a new video in the rest of this video series. Spend time on each video. I set up what the content of these videos will be like in part 1, so this one will be really easy to get through. Tomorrow I'll talk about pronouns and possessives in ASL and it will all start to come together.

By the end of the video series you'll be able to understand what I sign in the beginning of Part 1!!

Keep up the practice and I'll see you tomorrow! :)

STOP with the vlogs! You're HORRIBLE and should not be teaching ASL at all.

    Okay, so…
You must be the one that has nothing better to do with their time than to come to my site every time I post to rag on me for running this vlog. YOU need to stop with the outrageous comments and learn to be constructive when you criticize. I would love to hear your suggestions on how to make my posts better for everyone. I am perfectly capable and know enough about ASL to be teaching introductory techniques and signs. This vlog's purpose is to bring people together, to not only learn a little about the Deaf community and sign language but to also offer up some of their knowledge on ASL. Comments like this offer no value whatsoever and just take up space. You spew hatred and should be ashamed of yourself. If you don't like it, stop coming. All you have said is that I am horrible. No No…YOU'RE horrible for waisting everyone's time by being a complete jerk and not offering any solution to correct whatever is so "Horrible" about these videos. NOTHING I have signed or said on this site is offensive in nature or is misguided.

People, I have made it evident in previous posts that I am still learning and still taking Sign. I only have about 3 years under my belt and have a passion for learning more. So please, be kind and tell me specifically what you would like to learn or what I can improve. I will no longer approve comments like this, I only did this time because I wanted to show everyone how rude and obnoxious people can be on the internet, hiding behind their "anonymous" titles. Haters are angry people who will never find happiness. So lets not get angry, lets bring together a community of people who would like to learn some basics in ASL and to offer up their knowledge on the subject. THIS SITE IS NOT THE BE ALL – END ALL of ASL education. This site can serve as a open and kind hearted community for those who are interested in the subject.

    Kristen,
I came to this website becasue I needed a creative way to help my child practice her spelling words and could not remember the sign lanuage alphabet and happened across your website and video.
First of all I wanted to compliment you on how you handle the negative blogger that could offer any supportive critizms and that I think your passion to bring to different cultures of the hearing and nonhearing together is fantastic.
I watched your video and really loved how you covered the basics of signing. For instance the small things like why eye contact is important. For beginners like myself that is very helpful in understanding it better. The only thing that I might do differently is at the very begining when you first click on the viedo, you are automatically singning, which is good, but then after you get done signing verbally say what you just signed. Like I said I am a new at sign lanuage and I had no idea what you said. It might help your audiance connect with you from the very begining, and then go into your introductions and basics.
Thank you for taking the time to put the site together.

    Kristen,
I'm not trying to be derogatory, and i think its great that you are enthusiastic about this language and culture, but i do believe that you may need more exposure to the deaf community.
One great opportunity to immerse yourself in Deaf culture is by coming to the Deaf Studies Today! Conference run at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, this upcoming April. This conference has many prestigious and well known keynote speakers poets, storytellers, etc. such as Patrick Graybill and Ella Lentz. There are many people very involved in the Deaf World from all over the nation that attend, as well as many students of ASL. It provides a fun, yet educational experience for all, regardless of how long you have been a part of the Deaf World.
My dad, as program coordinator of the Deaf Studies Program at UVU, runs this conference and so I could very easily get you more information about it if you would like to know more. Just let me know.

I was really happy to come across your website. My husband lost his hearing and voice 6 years ago due to Lyme disease. We have learned ASL, however, we have been trying to teach my mother-in-law but she is having trouble. I think this site will truly help her understand better as my husband and I are not the best teachers…

Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hey Kristen,

I really like that you're so accepting of correction–way to be so cool! So, I think you're donig a great job. I can't think of anything you're doing wrong.

Question: in ASL, are there two different ways to sign the word "how?" You've used the fists together, twisting the dominant hand (as in "how are you?").I was looking at other sites and they curved their hands pointing at their abdominal area, going up then out (like presenting a gift or something). Just curious.

    Thanks so much!
