Hey Everyone,
Welcome Back!! I hope my video of the ASL alphabet gives you all a good feel for using your hands and understanding some basics of sign language. Just a few things about the alphabet…
One thing that I cannot stress enough: PRACTICE FINGER SPELLING!!!! Do it EVERYDAY. It is a huge huge huge huge part of Signing. Knowing how to finger spell effectively will help maximize your overall singing potential. Once you know the alphabet, start finger spelling everything you see. Do it on your break at work, at home, on the toilet…whenever/wherever you want.
Make sure you annunciate as well, no Sloppy Hands – a syndrome I suffer from sometimes
If you want more practice, visit this great site: Finger Spelling Practice This site will not only help you with your own abilities but also give you practice in watching finger spelled words so that when you start singing with others you will be a pro.
Good luck, everyone! Get yourself a signing buddy and study up!

I noticed on letters like C and O, you signed them straight onto the camera and not sideways were it's more obvious what later they are.
Is there a reason for this? I know in older books they would always have them sideways so they look like the letter you are signing.

I sign the letters toward the person because I was taught that way, I would have been corrected by my sign instructors if I were to sign them to the side. You may have seen it that way because it's easier to two dimensionally illustrate those letters to the side. If you have the opportunity to watch others finger spell, you'll notice they also sign these letters towards the viewer. http://asl.ms/ is a great example!
Happy signing!

That's not what one deaf friend told me. He said that the holes in C, O, and D all face the viewer.

Would I be able to print and distribute your asl alphalbet for a class I am teaching for baby sign language? I am not sure about copyright ect. Yours is the clearest chart I have found.
